OUR HISTORY
BORN FROM A COALITION. BUILT TO LAST
In 1977, community members from the Coalition to End Discrimination in Housing established the Center under the leadership of Cliff Schrupp.
Today, FHCMD is Michigan’s oldest fair housing center and one of the oldest in the nation. Schrupp later authored the Local Fair Housing Center Organizing Project, a guide used to establish approximately 20 centers across the United States.
Our work has earned national recognition, including awards from the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the State Bar of Michigan’s first Kimberly M. Cahill Bar Leadership Award.
